Huidkanker detectie met Verisante Aura

Behoefte aan ambulante vormen van PDT

Photodynamische therapie wordt sinds begin deze eeuw succesvol toegepast bij premaligne afwijkingen en non-melanoma huidkanker. PDT is inmiddels niet meer weg te denken uit de dagelijkse praktijk. Hoewel het merendeel van de patiënten zeer tevreden is met de huidige behandelingen, is er duidelijk behoefte om ze minder pijnlijk en tijdsintensief te maken. In deze ontwikkelingen past ook het streven naar ambulante vormen die in de eerste lijn kunnen worden gebruikt.

Tjongerschans biedt behandeling van huidkanker thuis

Patiënten met een basaalcelcarcinoom (vorm van huidkanker) kunnen sinds kort hun aandoening thuis behandelen: een opplakbaar lampje wordt op het te behandelen huiddeel geplakt. Dit komt in de plaats van een urenlange behandeling in het ziekenhuis. Op deze manier hoeft de patiënt minder naar het ziekenhuis te reizen, en kan hij in zijn eigen omgeving de therapie uitvoeren. De Tjongerschans verwacht jaarlijks ongeveer 80 patiënten op deze manier te kunnen behandelen.

Bij de zogenaamde ‘fotodynamische therapie’  worden de kwaadaardige huidcellen extreem gevoelig voor zichtbaar licht gemaakt door middel van een crème. Vervolgens worden deze belicht, waardoor ze afsterven. Na enkele weken worden ze door het lichaam vervangen door nieuwe, gezonde huidcellen.

Behandeling

In de eerste behandeling wordt het overschot van het tumorweefsel van de huid voorzichtig door de dermatoloog verwijderd. Vervolgens wordt een crème aangebracht. Daarna wordt de ingesmeerde huid bedekt met afdekfolie. Over de afdekfolie wordt een lampje aangebracht. De patiënt kan met het apparaat naar huis. Na de behandeltijd van 6 uur geeft het apparaat aan dat de behandeling is beëindigd. De patiënt kan het lampje er dan af halen en weggooien. De behandelde huid moet afgedekt worden. Na een week wordt de procedure geheel herhaald.

Drie maanden na de behandeling wordt de patiënt nogmaals uitgenodigd, om het resultaat door de dermatoloog te laten bekijken en over een eventuele vervolgbehandeling te spreken.

“Dat huidkanker met licht wordt behandeld is niet nieuw”, zegt dr. Tim Smits, dermatoloog van Máxima Medisch Centrum. Voor dergelijke photodynamische therapie (PDT) moesten patiënten echter naar het ziekenhuis komen waar ze gedurende drie uur intensief werden belicht met een grote lamp.
